Michael Marchi has worked on both the public and private side of the fire safety industry since 1979 starting as a volunteer firefighter and becoming a Georgia Advanced EMT. He then became a full-time professional firefighter/EMT. In 1987, he shifted to the private side working for Miami Fire Equipment, Unitor Ship Services, and Gulfcoast Fire & Safety installing, inspecting, and testing Halon 1301, CO2, and FM200 systems in both land-based facilities and on board cruise ships and cargo ships. He was trained and certified by several manufacturers on the fire protection systems including the releasing systems.

In 1996 Michael returned to public service working on the fire alarm and fire protection systems for Miami-Dade Aviation Department. Here he received additional training from Honeywell and became a Fire Alarm Systems Agent. He spent the next 6 years working on building fire alarm systems as well as the releasing systems for fire protection systems at the county’s airports.

In 2002, Michael became a fire inspector for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department with the primary focus on existing buildings, fire code compliance, and training fire inspectors. In 2019, Michael was assigned to MDFR’s Fire Engineering and Life Safety Bureau to conduct plan review for the approval of plans for fire alarm systems and special hazard fire protection systems.

Michael is a Florida certified Fire Inspector 2, Fire Instructor, and a NFPA Certified Fire Plans Examiner. He has been an active member of the Florida Fire Marshals and Inspectors Association for over 20 years and a member of the NFPA 72 Signaling Fundamentals Technical Committee since 2021.
