Central Gulf Coast - Society of Fire Protection Engineers
Performance based fire protection and full scale fire testing is generally thought of cost prohibitive. The only ones able to conduct this testing are those with large budgets to support extensive funding. However, as the world is changing and the need for solutions is outpacing the prescriptive code development cycles, efficient means of developing solutions for real world problems utilizing performance based testing is needed. A re-look at full scale fire testing programs and options is needed to ensure that professionals are aware of the true value, considerations and capability of full scale fire testing.
This presentation will review the basis and considerations of performance based fire tests, application considerations for use of full scale testing, as well as the actual process used to conduct acceptable and recognized test methodologies. Considerations and real life examples of problems solved with full scale fire testing, including cost / benefit, as well as purposeful testing of items outside what would be considered “allowed” by Code will be included in presentation.
During this seminar, participants will understand:
- Code basis and allowance for Performance Based fire sprinkler criteria development
- Case considerations for using full scale testing – a re-look at the “norm”
- What factors may be considered and evaluated prior to full scale fire testing
- Benefits of Performance Based options for not only the Engineer, but also the Owner and the AHJ
Please join us for this presentation and learn about performance based testing!
